Our History

From Bengaluru to India's Rail Network

Sri Maruthi Builders is part of the Maruthi Group, founded in the early 1970s by Mr. K. Syama Raju. The Group is a diversified conglomerate with interests in hospitality, hydel power generation, civil contracting, and railway infrastructure.

The concrete sleeper manufacturing division commenced operations in January 1993 at Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru — strategically located at the North Cabin of Yeshwantpur Railway Station within the South Western Railways (SWR) division. This made Sri Maruthi Builders the first concrete sleeper unit established in the Bangalore Division of Southern Railways.

The unit holds RDSO approval and is an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility. Over three decades, it has supplied over 2 million sleepers and 100 sets of Points & Crossing sleepers to Indian Railways — a testament to the quality of our manufacturing processes and raw materials.

In 2024, at the request of Indian Railways (to facilitate the Yeshwantpur World Class Station project and Suburban Railway expansion), Sri Maruthi Builders relocated to a new state-of-the-art plant at Mallasandra, Tumkur — just 900m from Mallasandra Railway Station, under CEO Naveen Raju. The new facility operates with the latest equipment at a capacity of 22,000 sleepers per month.

Early 1970s
Maruthi Group founded by Mr. K. Syama Raju. Sri Maruthi Builders begins civil and infrastructure contracting in Bengaluru — including Peenya Industrial Estate and Electronic City (KEONICS Building).
Jan 1993
Concrete sleeper manufacturing commences at Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru — the first such unit in the Bangalore Division of Southern Railways. RDSO approved and ISO certified.
1990s–2000s
Expanded product range to include Points & Crossing sleepers, Turnout sets and special sleepers. Supplied to Open-Line and Construction departments of SWR. Over 2 million sleepers delivered.
2018
Awarded Railway Board Contract No. CS-172 for supply of 2,18,000 concrete sleepers to RDSO Drawing No. T-8527 — one of the largest single-order contracts for the unit.
2024–Present
Relocated to modern plant at Mallasandra, Tumkur — 900m from Mallasandra Railway Station, 2km from NH-73. Capacity scaled to 22,000 sleepers/month under CEO Naveen Raju with latest manufacturing equipment.

Our Sleeper Range

Precision-manufactured pre-stressed concrete sleepers engineered to Indian Railways specifications — for mainline tracks, turnouts, level crossings, and more.

Manufacturing Excellence

Every sleeper is manufactured using M60 grade high-strength concrete (characteristic cube strength 525 kg/sq cm) with 16 numbers of 3×3 mm dia high-tensile steel strands per sleeper, each tensioned to 2,750 kg. The total weight of concrete per sleeper is approximately 300 kg with 8.217 kg of high-tensile steel. Steam curing at 85°C for 10 hours achieves a transfer strength of 400 kg/sq cm, followed by 14-day immersion water curing. Our Mallasandra plant — 900m from Mallasandra Railway Station on NH-73 — runs at 22,000 sleepers per month, all to RDSO Drawing No. T-8527 / T-8746 and IRS T-39 specifications.
